I’m typically not a huge fan of the Mad Men collection at Banana Republic, but I LOVE this white dress. I like the different ways you can change up the neckline.
I am hesitant to buy this dress because I have so many beige/white dresses already and I’ve been purchasing a lot recently so I’m not sure if I should keep adding to the collection.
The Kate Sheath dress is now available again on Banana Republic’s website. It was there and gone for awhile so I guess they just restocked. It comes in black and this nude color. It’s really similar to the Reiss Shola dress that Kate Middleton wore when she met The Obamas.
Anyway, it looks like this dress is going fast so get it while you can. It retails for $130 but today you can get 30% off with code: BRSWEET
Happy shopping!
The Banana Republic unit of Gap Inc., which has teamed up previously with “Mad Men” for marketing promotions, is doing so again this summer with what will be their most extensive joint effort to date. The centerpiece of the new promotion is a collection of men’s and women’s fashions, to be sold in Banana Republic stores and online, based on how the characters on “Mad Men” look.
There will be 65 items in the so-called capsule collection, which are to carry co-branded labels bearing the logos of “Mad Men” and Banana Republic. The merchandise is to be priced the same as similar regular items sold in Banana Republic stores and on bananarepublic.com.
Good! I hope they have a lot of awesome shift dresses and really unique work dresses because what they’ve been doing lately is so uninspired.
I’ve noticed that on my shopping trips the past few months, I haven’t seen anything I’ve liked. While this is good for my wallet (hello down payment for something important) it kind of takes the joy out of weekend shopping.
Even my staple stores are letting me down… Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Gap. It’s all the same thing in horrible drab colors. Elastic empire waist dresses (OVER IT), boring prints, unstructured dresses, and no whimsy. Sure there are some classic dresses out there, but when you’ve got it, you’re not going to buy it unless there’s a nice modern twist on it and I’ve noticed recently, there’s not much of a twist on anything. It all seems so uninspired and unappealing. Sure, maybe it sells, but it couldn’t possibly be more boring!
Don’t even get me started on materials. Stores are overcharging for items made out of polyester! Lord help me if I ever spend close to $100 on anything polyester. Not happening. Zara falls into this category for me - don’t get me wrong, I LOVE all the colors that Zara has incorporated into their clothing (unlike MANY stores) and I love all the designs, but I’m never going to pay that much for clothing made of polyester. H&M is the biggest offender! Their clothes are sold at a very reasonable price point and they have some cute designs, but nothing is lined. The materials are cheap and it’s starting to become a nicer Forever 21 which really isn’t a compliment. It seems like at these stores, their philosophy is quantity over quality and who are they fooling? It shows.
I’m so disappointed because even when I do find something I like (which is usually at J.Crew), the prices are through the roof. Design wise, I really love where J.Crew is going - there are so many pieces I like, but $98 for an oxford that was maybe $58 a few years ago is a little ridiculous. On the other hand, I know that their clothes are well made and I know they are made with materials I want to wear (read: not polyester). I know that if I walk into J.Crew, I can try on any leather shoe and it will be Italian leather. I guess this is why I sometimes justify the prices here. I will be getting high quality pieces with design and quality that match. It’s just.. I don’t always have the $500 to drop whenever I feel like it (Med school gets expensive y’all).
When I open the pages of a magazine, I’m so inspired by all the bold colors of DVF’s collection, and I’m loving the shapes and clean lines of clothing by designers like Jason Wu, Michael Kors etc… but recently this has not translated at all into mainstream shops. It’s like two different planets. While, I understand you probably shouldn’t expect a DVF frock look alike at the GAP (nobody can defend a blatant knock off), generally, what you see in the pages of Vogue do trickle down into these stores in one way or another, be it by a color of the season, or the way a dress is belted etc.
Have you guys been feeling this way too? It just seems like the quality of the fabrics and the design of clothing these days are so basic and boring. I don’t know if the economy is to blame, but I do think it’s a contributing factor. I’m hating it because it’s making my shopping experience suck and it’s making me not want to buy anything. I walk into a store for 5 minutes and I’m immediately disappointed.
Walked into Banana Republic last night and fell in love with these beauties…

Perfect for summer, comfortable, and goes well when you’re short and have an NBA player sized boyfriend.
Also a little reminiscent of these House of Harlow wedges wouldn’t you say?

I’m really into knit blazers and jackets this season. They just seem so perfect for this inbetween weather we’ve been having. They are classic shapes we love but in fabrics that are perfect for the season.
Anyway, my latest obsession is this knit Motorcycle jacket from Banana Republic. It’s got the badass shape of a traditional motorcycle jacket but a softness (literally) to it — I’d like to think this is a motorcycle jacket for Jackie O! :)
Either way, I’ll add this to the list of things I love and need for Fall (as if my bank account needed more of those!!) If you want to buy this amazing jacket, right now Banana Republic is offering 30% off of all regular priced items with coupon code: SAVEBIG. This ends on 10/5 so act fast!
I’ve noticed that I’m crazy about skirts for the fall. This one, I went in and tried on in stores today and it is AMAZING. It looks even better on! It’s so incredibly comfortable and so safari chic. I love it with a skinny belt and a very non fussy top like a regular long sleeve T. Throw on a cardigan for colder days! It’s just so perfect for Fall.
I’m so glad I didn’t buy it in stores because I went home and just found out Banana Republic is offering 25% off of $100 purchases made online. Use promo code BRSAVE25.
Also, this skirt is $44.50 online and in stores it was $60
Happy Shopping!
Remember how I posted about loving this jacket from Banana Republic and how I couldn’t find it on their website ANYWHERE?
Well, I actually got in touch with their Merch reps (yes, I realize I creepily went a little above and beyond to find these people to find this jacket) and they told me that it is not yet in stores and will be out next month! YAYYYY!
More specifically it is called “The Cotton Sweater Jacket” and don’t get me started about how much I like the sound of a COTTON JACKET for Fall. I bet it would go with everything. That aside, the item number is: 769569
I guess now it probably goes without saying that I will be the first in line for this jacket! I am so obsessed.
