Tonight I watched The Iron Lady. As usual Meryl brings her A-game and is great. I just wished the story didn’t do flashbacks so much and just TOLD the story. I feel like there were glimpses of how amazing Margaret Thatcher really was, but the film hardly scratched the surface. It left me sad for the state that this phenomenal woman is in now.
The movie showed her presently suffering from dementia and then flashing back here and there for important milestones in her life. I just wished the focused on how driven she was and how she stood up to all the men in parliament when they ridiculed her. This really could have been an incredibly inspiring movie especially for young girls. Don’t get me wrong, it certainly had it’s moments, but the image of such a powerful woman juxtaposed with one of declining physical and mental health was a bit depressing to see and I don’t feel like it did justice to the PHENOMENAL lady and her journey.
